Goabagan Sarbojanin Dorgotsab presents "Matir Taan"

‘This year we, the members of GOABAGAN SARBOJANIN DURGOTSAB SAMITY, like the last 79 years, is fully geared-up to commemorate our 80th.year of Durga Puja.

This puja, held at CIT Park on Sahitya Parishad Street, is one of the oldest and most revered Pujas of North Kolkata as well as Kolkata as a whole.

We have been honoured with many laurels in the past years. Gaobagan Sarbojanin had the privilege of getting patronized by Netaji Shubhash Chandra Bose, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray and Scientist Satyen Bose to name a few.

This year our inspiration is drawn from the oldest and the most creative art of Bengal – Mritshilpo. This is an omnipresent form of art and living medium found all over Bengal in every village and town in different formats. This form of art has taken creative art of Bengal to many international forums and particularly Ghurni in Krishnanagar and Panchmura in Bakura is world famous for their creative excellence.

We have named the whole creative presentation stretched over 4000 sq. ft as “MATIR-TAAN” which will be mainly constructed with Bamboo poles, bamboo thatched sheets and more than 100 forms of earthen utilities and earthen creative figurines.

The entire theme has been conceptualized by our club members jointly named as “Amra Sobai” and will be executed with the help of artisans from Bakura, Krishnanagar, Purba Midnapur and South 24 Parganas.

Azadgarh Himachal Sangha Durgapuja

The puja at Azadgarh Himachal Sangha is unique in the aspect that in this age of utter commercialisation n cut-throat competition among puja committees, thus leading to the age of innovative theme pujas, this puja has managed to hold a special place in many peoples' hearts by maintaining a super simple, homely n traditional para-type atmosphere each n every passing year ( except in the year 2005, when on the occassion of silver-jubilee year the entire puja was conceptualised on a combination of patshilpa of Bengal n chhoushilpa of Purulia - the puja was a major disaster that year in terms of appeal among the members of the committee n residents too )...the concept of theme is strictly rejected n prohibited here....our divine simplicity n solemnity is the USP of this puja....this puja was started in the year 1980 ( though the club was formed way back in 1950 ) by a group of local members....the entire 4-days season witness a total adda session-atmosphere.

Dumdum Park Yubak Brinda : Shilpo jakhon katha bole......

Today, all the traditional art forms are endangered. Deterioration of traditions, disparity of economic pursuits , influence of mass-media and development of ‘official’ culture left nothing to exist originally. In past few decades, the art of Mandana like those of the other tribe is loosing its vitality and vigour. Perhaps it is inevitable, because now their whole culture is disintegrating with constant in-roads of modernization. Their confidence in their own ethos has been undermined, for they have been exposed to the higher culture of city with materialistic life.Due to socio-economic development, this art form has tremendously suffered. Today we only see traces of this vital art left in few remote villages of  Gujrat.

This year Dum Dum Yubak Brinda is celebrating 44th years and has decided to come up with this great art, "MANDANA". The themes of Mandana are mainly variety of birds, animals and plants, anthropomorphs, zoo-morphs and exquisite decorative designs which are highlighted with dots and dashes. In Mandana paintings the Meena women record their past and present experiences; thus we see the drawings of such animals, birds and objects that no more exist in their present surroundings but the images of which still haunt their memory and are accorded a place in these visual expressions.

The theme maker Shri. Somnath Mukhopadhyay is going to present Mandana art in a modern form. Likewise, in Mandana art people used to have a black outline. Here, Shri.Somnath Mukhopadhyay has used Black Iron string with bright hues. It will be mystical, and magical too.

Idol: The traditional looking pratima will be made by Shri. Pradip Pal of Kumortuli while
Pandel decoration will be done by South Calcutta Decorators.

Last year Award: CSCE Telegraph -3 star, EIILM - Shreshtha Najar kara pujo, "Baanchgo", NGO - First.

47 Palli, Yubak Brinda - The Golden Jubilee Celebration

Durga puja is around the corner...the countdown has aleady begun. The puja committees are extremely busy giving their last minute suggession to the artisan, Theme makers, illuminator or who belong to this glorified puja.

This year 47 Palli, Yubak Brinda will come up with glorious creation of tradirional frame of mind. It's like old designed mandir with long courtyard where both side of the wall has been depicted and decorated with ten hand a Maa Durga. She was sent forth against Mahishasura armed by symbols of divine power e,g, Vishnu's discus; Shiva's trident; Varuna's conchshell; Agni's flaming dart; Vayu's bow; Surya's quiver and arrow; Yama's iron rod; Indra's thunderbolt; Kubera's club and a garland of snakes from Shesha and a lion as a charger from Himalayas. The myth reminds us that a fierce battle took place. Finally when Mahishasura in the guise of a buffalo charged against Durga, the Devi beheaded the buffalo and from it emerged Mahishasura in his original form. Durga pierced his chest with the trident and relieved the world from the evil power. But here 47 Palli, Yubak Brinda has tried something different by presenting two asuras. One signifies the command of Maa Durga that

"I can free you if you beg apology for your misdeed", and second one justifies Durga as a "Durgatinashini". The entire mandap has been enriched with the incidents of "Ramayana". The theme is conceptualized by the committee members.

Idol: The famous artisan Shri.ParimalPal from Kumartuli will present Sabeki Pratima. Pandel decoration will be done by Aashirbaad Decorators, Tamluk. Moti Electric has done a wonderful lighting.

Last year Award
: Rotary Club's Consolation Prize.

Day/Date of Inauguration is Panchami i.e. on 12th October'2010 where Maharaj Of "Ramkrishna Mission", popular Footballer Shri. Biswajit Bhattacharya and coach Shri. Sabbir Ali will inaugaurate the show.
Social Service: Distribution of new clothes to the poor on the day of inauguration, blood donation camp, distribution of blankets to the poor during winter, health check up, financial help to the poor-these are some of the works the club does every year.

Salt Lake HB Block - a classy presentation

Now a days every mind has its own preferences and choices. Theme Pujas doesn't mean that they're bad. Somebody believe theme puja's atmosphere is not ideal for devotion. But there are other spaces for those purposes. What about the arts and crafts on display in most pandals these days? Sometime they're reathtaking. The camaraderie and articipation of old-time para Pujas have been replaced by a new bonhomie at the Pujas in housing estates. All four days are spent eating, chatting and sharing time together. The children make themselves busy with various types of cultural programmes like skits, competitions, games and these foster new friendships. This is the new barir pujo now. This is the way how HB Block, Salt Lake has been celebrating Durga Pujo since 26th years. They mix art with tradition, they blend hues with the designs, they jumble sense with the presence of mind. This year HB Block, Salt Lake will come up with the presentation of Rajasthaani Art and Culture. We all are very familiar with Rajathani Art and in my view its awesome.

Everyone tries to forget about their personal clash atleast for the four days of durgapuja. Sweet smell of flowers and incense sticks fill the atmophere in all the community pandals. Prasad distributed after the daily rituals with the dhyang-kur-kur beatings of the dhak and 'pujor gaan' make us feel bengalee. Various cultural programmes are organized. Breaking the hurdles of age the participation is unanimous. The speciality of HB Block pujo is "PONGTI BHOJ". On Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, all the people of Abasan unite and have their lunch and dinner togather.
