Jayamahal Sarbajanin Durgatsab, Bangalore

Durga Puja Celebration in other parts of India is not less than the Pujas of Kolkata.  It feels great when we hear that the festive season brings the same feeling to the other cities also. Thanks to the media that shows us the coverage of the other city pujas. No matter where the Bengalis reside, they assemble on the four auspicious days to exchange happiness and ‘adda’.

Jayamahal Sarbajanin Durga Puja is standing on its 56th year of celebration. The kick off year of this puja committee was in 1955. It was formally registered in the year 2000 under Societies Act, as “Jayamahal Sarbajanin Durga Charitable Samiti”. Being one of the biggest Bengali Associations in the Garden City of Bangalore, this puja committee has been a major crowd-puller. The association has countless achievements to its credit. The Samati is proud to have their iconic members, some of whom are important members of the society, drawn from academic, government, corporate and scientist fraternity.

Theme thought by the puja committee for this year is simply mind-blowing. They are working on “Tradition Jorasanko Thakurbari”, in a way celebrating 150th year of Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday.

The Samiti has their definite mission saying “Strive to integrate the rich cultures of Bengal and Karnataka through diverse cultural activities and to help the society through charitable and social welfare activities.”

This year Jayamahal Sarbajanin Durga Puja is the second oldest pujas in Bangalore. Having their budget for 10 to 20 lakhs, this puja is looking forward to something very creative this year.
