Bay Area Prabasi - The Cultural Ambassadors from the Soul of Bengal

Bay Area Prabsasi will celebrate Durgatsab 2010 on 16th and 17th October. The organization started in the early 70's.

The club will celebrate a Mega Utsab with artists from Kolkata and Mumbai and functions with Stalwarts like Shishirkana Dhar chowdhury.

How Prabasi was formed?
One fine afternoon at San Pablo Dam of May 1974, the Bengalis in the Bay Area kicked around the idea of having a Bengali organization while having a beautiful time at the picnic. The final moment came when we gathered on July of 1974 to witness the birth of baby Prabasi.

The first president was Sri Ramen Chakraborty as a head of the organization, and Sri Satya Ray was the first general secretary and the chief executive officer. Prabasi's programs started with a celebration of Independence Day on 15th August. In 1978 under the presidency of Sri Mritunjoy Ghosh the structure of the organization was amended to the present form where the president is the chief executive officer who selects his team to execute the affairs of the organization.

Prabasi got registered in 1983 as a non-profit organization in California to give some tax incentive to its members, and was registered as Bay Area Prabasi Incorporated.

Every year Durga Puja brings us sweet reminiscences from Bengal - from the sound of dhaak, to the hustle-bustle of ladies trying to do their last minute shopping, to the smell of dhuno and shiuli.

Like every year, this year also Bay area will host an array of cultural events, starting for "Sunidhi Chauhan Live" to concert of Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta and Sayantani Majumdar.

Dates: October 16 and 17, 2010

Venue: Chabot College, Hayward.
