Swisspuja - Zurich, Switzerland

There are abut 300 listed Bengali families around Zurich, dark figures are higher, because many short term (short term because they come for couple of years and return) young Bengali IT professionals, with or without families, are here who have not listed with the Puja organization but get invited by word of mouth or internet come to the Puja venue, some on all the Puja days and some on one or two days. The Puja core executive committee consists of 5 to 6 members and about 20 to 25 active volunteers during the Puja days.

Cultural programs are being organised on all three days from Saptami to Nabami to entertain the members and non-member visitors. In addition, this year for the first time, since the Sandhi Puja takes place in the afternoon (in Zurich from 2:19pm - 3:07pm), Dhunuchi Naach will be performed in the Ashtami evening by members and guests. Prasad Bhog (vegetarian meal) will be offered to everyone on lunch during those three days. On Dashami after the Bisorjon ritual (and not factual) into Zurich lake and after the Sindur Khela of the ladies, we offer a non-vegetarian buffet lunch.

The Puja organization was founded in 2004 and every year during Bijoya Sammelani, held two to three weeks after the Puja, a general body meeting is also held by the registered members and new executive members are elected for the coming year Puja. The Puja preparations actually start in April/May when we request the members to pay their financial contributions, so that we can budget reasonably.  The Pratima is made of fibreglass in Kumartuli, Kolkata in the year 2004. The Pratima can be easily disassembled and re-assembled.

Jyotiprasad Majumder, Secretary Swisspuja 2010, wishes everyone a very happy and prosperous Durgatsab.
